I have many great memories of grandpa. His long legs crossed and wrapped twice around each other, his forever dangling cigarette, how proud he was of his backyard vegetable patch, letting me win our garden races. But what I think about the most is what he would have thought about life as it is now. Would he have quit smoking? What words would he have for athletes using steroids? Would he have embraced technology? What would he say about President Trump? (I think I know!) Would he have gone into politics, perhaps as Health Minister, like many of his cohorts did? How would he have helped with COVID-19 in Jamaica?
As the eldest granddaughter, one thing I know for sure, he would have been so proud of how connected we have stayed, even though we are living all over the world. He’d love visiting each and every one of us, from Dubai, to Toronto, to England. He probably would want to pop into our WhatsApp chat group every now and then. Maybe Usain would even have led him to an Instagram takeover.
