I don’t remember what Uncle Arthur did for/with me. I do remember racing Uncle Arthur for one of his Trophy’s. I lost of course, but that wasn’t point. I ran in a race with Uncle Arthur "MY Uncle Arthur” Who cared about winning! I just ran my own private race with Arthur Wint, MY Uncle! An Olympic champion and one of my champions! It wasn’t about winning, it was about being in his presence, on his battle field, on his terms. I showed him that I was willing and able to participate, at least for that day. YESS!
GODFATHER
When he came and spent overnight trips from Lucea (I think), he would watch me play cricket, football and give me advice. "Wow! He gave me advice ! Do you know how lucky I was?”
I always wanted to know about the war (WWII) but they sheltered me from that. I didn’t want that.
THE LOSS
I was in America, in the Army, I’m not sure. Hearing the loss of my Uncle hit me harder than I thought. I was down for a week! I know I can say I mourned for a week.
It was a great loss. He is still part of that list of great relatives that I want to ask question of, talk with, walk with and show him my accomplishments. I know that I am a part of the greatness he created and I am carrying this 200 hundred-fold .
Nuff Respect Uncle Arthur!!
I did it Uncle Arthur!
